SUMMARY:Advanced Phenomenology of Cephalopod Desire: Multiplicity Beyond the Phallus – And the Persistent Fantasy of Tentacle Violation: A philosophic discussion.
DESCRIPTION:Professor Rick von Berg invites you to his first class on campus: \nThis seminar treats the tentacle as a philosophical object. It asks how cephalopod forms disrupt models of desire built around the singular phallus\, distributing agency and sensation across multiple\, semi-autonomous appendages instead. \nOn the Columtreal University campus and in its immediate surroundings\, tentacle-themed businesses appear with unusual density. The class will examine why that abundance exists and what it suggests about local culture\, commerce\, and desire. \nThe session is a guided discussion rather than a lecture. It is open to total novices who have never considered the topic and to experts who have already worked through the literature; everyone in between is equally welcome. There is no test. Attendance alone awards credit. The aim is simply to get students thinking critically about the material. \nWe will look at what the persistent fantasy of tentacle violation reveals about powerlessness\, surrender\, shame\, and the relief of having one’s agency temporarily suspended by something non-human. Classical and contemporary sources will be drawn on as needed\, but the conversation will follow the questions that arise in the room. \nFitting snacks will be available so participants can compare the material reality of the animal with its highly stylized fantasy counterpart. The class analyzes fantasy and representation only. Real-world consent remains absolute and non-negotiable.
