Jason had waited till Gabe and Eliza weren't at the boat house . Jason wasn't entirely sure just what the hell had happened the night before when Eliza started saying she saw a skull in the submerged pile of junk he had been working to remove for the last few weeks. Jason had been taking a hour here and there to work a few crates of discarded old crap that formed a sunken milden heap. The dumpster on the side of the building was the receptacle for the wet crates he had been winching up . Now Jason was about 10 feet from the back wall of the old pre 1800's looking masonry , the outline of the wrecked car coming into view. Jason had skipped the line and crate , instead only a small video camera was in one hand , the tiny led light behind the sealed casing shone a tunnel of light , the murky water turning into a under water snow storm , he swept the light to his left and started a slow chore of a methodical grid he was for now, just seeing in his head. Old rotted kitchen wear-broken shards of thick unglazed stoneware-and a fridge door . And between the hypnotic hiss of his regulator and the hollow echo of the rising bubbles from his exhales Jason found the front passenger side of the car, the light going to where a plate might have fallen if it was ever on that hanging bumper . His thick , rigid ocean flippers were digging into the soft bottom when he started following the line of the car .. down the passenger side .. and while the turbidity of the water settled on one sweep of the light , something of a not organic looking , a straight lighter color.. at first he thought it might be a piece of tubing .. but as he worked closer , Jason started to take on a different opinion .. and then he stilled , let the cameras auto focus do its thing as he took several images. then he floated further above it , trying to gage where the head might have been , DID Eliza actually see a skull last night ?.. it was a effort for a couple minutes as he slowed his own anxiety , he was a short breath from the surface , and could have just come back down with a snorkel .
the thoughts were multiplying as he decided to back off and just report it.. knowing it was going to all but kill his application for a dredge for the foreseeable future .
