Daily Grind

By Londinia Leistone

TYPE: Official CD Group

SLURL: Hathian

BACKGROUND: I have enjoyed working at the Grind under Pia in a prior storyline of mine and would love to settle back in and help out both OOCly and ICly. The Grind has been a staple business (and hot spot) in CD for so long, and I don’t feel that it needs any drastic changes. It just needs RP guidance to help facilitate deeper storylines for employees and customers alike. The Grind is great for any sort of meeting up...dates, friends, or as an individual just looking to get some coffee. I've noticed that the food establishments in CD have always been a great place for new roleplayers to get themselves started into stories, whether they are a customer or working at the place. It’s in my nature to be helpful, and I have always RPed with anyone who throws an emote my way. So I'd love to help get roleplay going for newer players, and of course help build storylines with the regulars of CD. As far as my character goes, she has been putting in many long days up at the bakery for months now, but after a string of bad luck encounters, she no longer feels safe at the establishment and wants to settle into a position in a different work environment. With all of the experience she’s gained in the food service industry, she is ready to take the head position at the Daily Grind and get a fresh start.

UNIQUE: There are only two spots that are primarily drink establishments in the city, one being Lou's and the other being The Grind. Lou’s is not exactly Family Friendly, so I wouldn’t mind catering to the kiddos of CD. Teenagers may not be big on coffee, but I’m sure they are big on free internet (more on that below) without their parents watching. With the new HPD Garage right across the street, we could always have some sort of promotion where cops can come get a cup of Joe on the house after leaving the garage. I'd love to do some cross promotion between Daily Grind and Berthier Bakery. This works ICly given that Lundy has been working at the bakery and still has ties there. I’ve always seen the bakery as having more commonalities than any other business in Hathian when matched against The Grind.

EXPERIENCE:I enjoy the daily activities of RPing in a business. It's something I've done consistently through my time as a RPer, and something I strive to make fun for everyone involved. I've currently been RPing at the bakery for the past 6 or so months, putting in a lot of time and having a lot of fun with the stories that have stemmed from being there. I’d like to continue that over at The Grind. As mentioned before, I used to work at the Daily Grind during an old storyline of mine. While the character isn’t the same one I currently play, I still got a good awareness of what the day-to-day RP was for the business. I’ve previously lead a business for a year in another sim as well as being a sim event coordinator. I have come to understand how to handle conflict between two parties, and I’ve also learned how to get people involved and promote business.

IDEAS:Coffee shops are known for being extended lounge areas for a variety of people, from the lawyer to the homeless guy to the college student. I'd like to take that theory and apply it to The Grind, encouraging it to be a solid hang out spot with things like Free Wifi. (Maybe a couple laptops around as a mental note) I think this would be a great additional avenue to open RP possibilities. If people are using the large lounge area in The Grind as more of a usual hang out, then employees or other repeat customers can start building stories with a much greater ease and comfort level. Updating the menu on the wall as well as the employee shirts are really the only two things I feel need a quick overhaul. Very minor things…like I said earlier, I don’t feel the place is missing anything and it functions well as it is now.

OTHER:I'd definitely want a supporting position around. I think it's important to have one. RL may come up, or you may get in a RP funk, but you don’t want to lose the momentum by trying to run things solo. So an assistant manager or something equivalent would be something I'd look into pretty quickly after becoming the lead. I'd like to emphasize the encouragement of employees to create their own storylines...good, bad, happy, or sad. I know from my prior experience of leading a business both ICly and OOCly that it is definitely more about promoting stories as a whole for your business rather than your own personal storyline. I am open to hearing any suggestions, ideas, or plots. I am readily available, and if I'm online, I'm in CD. I'm also not a person who alts, (not knocking it at all!) but just to make the point that if I'm here, I'm on Lundy. If I'm online but not able to RP, then I'm in my house in CD but able to be in IMs for any OOC questions/concerns/help.
