Group Proposal:

Leader:
AdamMcBain Stratten

Leader Email Address:
[email protected]

Group Name: Special Actions Unit (informally known as the Deaf Mutes - similar to how units within the Army will have an informal name, such as the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division is called the "Patriots")

Group Backstory / Agenda:
The idea for the SAU came about with Linus “Jackal” Desmond and Adam O’Connor, as a means of getting more out of the Hathian Police Department. Desmond, a man of money and a Navy SEAL veteran, met O’Connor, a Green Beret, when he began work at the HPD. Adam had been thinking for a long time about how to coincide his experience as a special operations and intelligence operative with his newfound career in law enforcement. Linus was looking for a way to give back to the community through the HPD. The Special Actions Unit, known more informally as the Deaf Mutes, would be responsible for intelligence gathering and processing. Their activities could encompass many areas, such as the following: assisting in the interrogation process, wiretapping phones and strategic locations, working with witnesses and suspects to implicate larger suspects through plea bargains, wires and other intelligence devices, surveillance and informal parole activities, such as keeping tabs on known convicts.

Group Uniqueness:
The SAU would assist the HPD in finding suspects, and making sure the Department has enough evidence to prosecute. Unlike an anti-gang unit, the SAU would be a 'secret' unit that the HPD would insist it had no knowledge of, allowing the Unit to target individuals who are not involved in gangs. This could mean asking a suspect's coworker to cooperate with investigators by wearing a wire and having conversations with the suspect about a specific crime, or it could mean giving a suspect shorter incarceration time in exchange for providing information on gang leaders, or about specific crimes. While the HPD would make arrests and conduct interrogations, the information used to obtain warrants and follow through with convictions would often come from the SAU.

About Leader:
The creative team behind this project (Adam O'Connor [[adammcbain.stratten] and Linus Desmond [Mathaiyus Resident]) have RL experience in special operations, intelligence-gathering and law enforcement, which will lend a hand to keeping the group's RP realistic and detailed. On top of this experience, Linus spent a long time owning a collection of RP sims, until RL called him away. He's had leadership positions in Gor, Midian City and Perdition and has organized groups and events in RP communities like Llorkh, Doomed Ship and others. Adam's been RPing in CD for almost a year and a half, and worked with the FDH and HGH prior to enrolling with the HPD. OOCly, he's been involved in leadership positions within Perdition and has worked administratively in non-RP areas within SL such as clubs. In RL, he was a leader within the army and tends to lean towards leadership positions whenever they present themselves to him. However, both think the most important thing about being a leader in CD is that one is reliable, has good communication skills, is able to de-escalate situations and execute actions without drama. Adam and Linus have these skills under their belt, and have spent time getting to know each other's strengths and weaknesses so that they may help each other in a true partnership - not only between the two of them, but in every interaction with the CD commmunity.

Suggestion / Ideas:
The SAU would give more reserved and introverted characters more opportunities for RP. The SAU would be a fairly isolated and secret work environment, which would mean that its members would be close to each other, but probably not very close with most other people in the community. On the other hand, it would give some characters a way to be friends with a lot of people whilst having an air of secrecy around them. The SAU would also bring together new members of the CD community and old, as New McBloggins could easily be assigned to a case involving Old Shmoe. This would help to break down what many people currently regard as a barrier between the two groups within the community. On top of these points of accessibility, the SAU, through its multiple facilities on every sim in CD (except Hathian), encourage RP to disperse across the available land, and bring RP to a more realistic point by having a police presence within the city’s various communities and neighbourhoods.
