Derek lived in Hathian all of his life, not necessarily with his parents - but he survived nontheless. (looking for IC parents, IM me) Within a few years of his life he became close to another child his age, Eiji Mahoney. The two were basically brothers, and Derek kind of held Eiji high at a young age, even though he was older. They were always getting into trouble or causing a ruckus, but because of Eiji's connections they rarely ever got into trouble. As years passed, Derek matured and became a more independent and rough boy, realizing you had to hold your own to get anywhere in a city like Hathian.
