CU Cheer Squad

By: Gabriella Zabalza (LadyNehemah Resident)

BACKGROUND: The Cheer Squad, by definition, is there to promote campus unity and pride, as well as the public's perception and awareness of the school at large. To do this, we need to stay highly visible, and active, around both the campus, as well as the city itself. The Cheer Squad needs to be the face of the school, inspiring others to come to the school, and find their own ways to associate with it. We need to show the world just what kind of good, positive citizens come out of the university, and the Cheer Squad is the spearhead for that movement.

UNIQUE: The Cheer Squad is unique in that not only is it not tied down to any one place or agenda, its entire reason for existing is to get around as much as possible. Cheering at other schools for away games, preforming for school rallies, even as part of outreach programs to other business or charities. We can preform for business openings, volunteer with charitable organizations, engage in civic duties...the list goes on and on. Anything that can show how Culumtreal produces the best citizens Hathian has to offer.

EXP: I've been on the campus since the beginning of this year, and I've run a fair amount of classes in both Archeology and Anthropology, and I've been refining my methods, and learning how to better structure events and interactions between large groups of people. I know when to both enforce a more structured posting order, pushing events along and while not dictating the course of an event, making sure it is guided to include as many people and activities as possible, while at the same time, also knowing when to step back and let people freeform and enjoy themselves, when to let an event evolve and develop on its own. As for larger scale things, I know how to string together events over time to create an evolving storyline, where events from one occasion influence what happens down the road. I love working with other leads to create ways to interweave our plot lines to try and get more interaction between people, getting them to step out of their comfort zone and connect with characters they normally wouldn't come across.

WORK WITH OTHERS: The Fraternity and Sorority are the most obvious examples, as we will choreograph events together to try and make sure there is maximum exposure. However, the 'end game', as it were, for me is to get more people involved with the school. As such, my plan is to have the cheer squad be highly visible in the city as well. They'll be encouraged to work with the hospital as interns or candy strippers, as it were, along with interning at other professional institutions, such as law offices and the like. Aside from that, there is no single business I plan to single out for the Squad to associate with, though I do have several ideas for them to work with many businesses, which I will outline below.

IDEAS: My goal is to create as much visibility for the Cheer Squad, and school, as a whole. To accomplish this goal, my intention is to get involved in as many high profile events as possible. While there will also a weekly practice to help encourage team involvement and unity, the major focus will be on events that include the campus and city as a whole. I'll work to get them to preform at business openings or parties. There will be a monthly soup kitchen staffed by the Squad for the downtrodden of the city to come and get a free meal. I'll work with the Seaside Elementary to get the Cheer Squad in there to help tutor and teach when there aren't enough staff around, or to help chaperone events when they need extra supervision. Seeing as there are no sports teams currently, actually playing at a game would not be feasible, but having an after party for a game hosted at a club or on campus where the city is invited as well to celebrate a victory is certainly plausible as well. In the end, my goal is to develop the Cheer Squad as the face for Columtreal University. They'll be known as the ones stepping up to show just what the students of the university have to offer, and how they can impact the world and city in a positive way.
